Welcome to Cozy Chaos!
I’m Marybeth and I like to think that Cozy Chaos is the perfect description of my life.
I’m a Mom, a wife, a Blogger and I have a full time work at home job as a Community Manager. My life is far too busy to ever be perfect. That’s where the chaos comes in.
I need a cozy home to balance out the chaos.
I love to be at home. I’m the luckiest person in the world to be able to run my life from my living room. When I think of “home”, I think cozy. But, all too often the view from my desk in my living room looks like a couch cushion bomb exploded, taking out all of the throw pillows, blankets, picture frames and various other articles with it.
That’s not very cozy.
Cozy to me is three things.
Clean is number one on the list because if my house isn’t moderately clean, I don’t even want to be in it. I’m not a clean freak, by any stretch of the imagination. I actually HATE cleaning, but I also hate a dirty house so I’m left to walk the line of spending as little time as possible cleaning while still not needing a hazmat suit to sit on the couch. Because cleaning is not cozy, but clean is.
Organized is next, but not in the traditional sense, I don’t think. What I really mean is that, a cozy house has all of the things that you need and they are all in a place where you can find them. It doesn’t have to be a perfect system, it just has to be enough that you don’t spend chunks of your days looking for the things that you need to use. Like hairbrushes.
Here’s an example of what I mean. We have two televisions in our house. We’ve lost one remote. So for months, we’ve been using one remote. Which means we have to reprogram the remote every time we switch tvs. We haven’t bought a new remote because, well, it’s a remote. It’s gotta be in this house somewhere, right?? But, little things like having to reprogram the remote are annoying.
Annoying is like the exact opposite of cozy.
A cozy, organized house would have a spot for those remotes so that they wouldn’t get lost. OR, if one did get lost an organized person would bite the bullet and go buy another one.
Finally, comfortable. This one is obviously the key to a Cozy home. The first two are just in support of comfortable. So what is comfortable?
Comfortable to me means that everything in your home is taking your senses into account. Blankets feel soft and warm. The decor looks welcoming and interesting. Your kitchen is stocked with food that tastes yummy. You’ve got candles or incense or essential oils that make the house smell amazing and uniquely like you and your family. And you’ve got music or laughter or noise of some kind that sound like home to you.
That’s how you get cozy.
I’m not totally at cozy yet, but I’m going to show you how I do get there. I’m going to go room by room, cozying this place up. There’ll be some cleaning, some organizing, but mostly, there will be ways to make this home comfortable.
Let’s find the cozy in the chaos!
